Things to know before booking an Interrail One-Country Pass

  • Eligibility: To use an Interrail Pass, you need to be an official resident of a European country. You can use it only to travel domestically within a country. For example, if you are a resident of the Netherlands, and you have an Interrail Spain Pass, the pass is not valid on the journey from the Netherlands to Spain, but only within Spain. You cannot purchase the Interrail One-Country Pass for your European country of residence.
  • Seat reservations: Check the seat reservation requirement of the train you have chosen and purchase them separately if required as the Pass does not include seat reservation charges. Most high-speed and night trains require a separate reservation.
  • Travel class: While first-class passes are valid in both 1st and 2nd class coaches, a second-class pass is valid only in 2nd class coaches.
  • Youth & Senior Pass: You need to be aged between 12 and 27 on the start date of your trip to be eligible for a Youth Pass. A Senior Pass is valid for those aged 60 and above on the start date.
  • Child Policy: Children aged under 4 travel for free. However, you might have to seat them on your lap during crowded journeys. Two children aged 11 or under on the first date of the journey, travel free with a person carrying an Adult Pass. If there are more than 2 children with 1 adult, a Youth Pass must be obtained for each additional child.
